Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)

At UNICEF, we place people – men, women, families, children, adolescents – at the centre of our work. To make sure our work is truly people-centred, we are committed to embedding Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) in everything we do.

AAP is about using power and resources ethically and responsibly. It’s about putting the needs and interests of the people we serve at the centre of decision-making, and ensuring the most appropriate and relevant outcomes for them, while preserving their rights and dignity and increasing their resilience to face situations of vulnerability and crisis.

Our commitment to AAP is reflected in the 2018 Business Case for Scaling up AAP in UNICEF, and the 2020 Core Commitments to Children in Humanitarian Action.
