Children's rights to a healthy environment in East Asia & the Pacific
Climate and environmental challenges across East Asia and the Pacific risk undermining children’s right to a healthy environment. This discussion paper considers how different legal systems across the region approach this right, with a particular focus on Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia and Viet Nam.
This discussion paper also assesses the progress made in recognising children’s right to a healthy environment, the status of children’s education, engagement and participation in environmental affairs, as well as the role of the business sector in respecting children’s right to a healthy environment through various case studies.
Detailed analysis of national law relevant to children’s right to a healthy environment in Cambodia, Fiji, Indonesia, Mongolia and Viet Nam is incorporated into the discussion paper through analysis matrices. These matrices may provide a practical tool for policymakers, researchers and child or youth-focused organisations engaging with national law and policy on the topic of children’s right to a healthy environment in East Asia and the Pacific.
